Resumo


The objective of this paper is to present the results of a research that shows how small and mid-sized construction companies in the East part of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, have being using IT Information Technology as a strategy for their businesses. The paper presents a list of Critical Success Factors that can be used to align business strategy of these companies with the use of IT. Based on a case study investigation, the paper presents the perceptions and practices used by these construction firms, the activities developed by them and its relationship with IT. The data collected on this research was based on interviews with people from the constrution firms, specially those in management positions. The interviews were organized in order to obtain qualitative information, specially those related to the benefits and limitations from the use of IT in the internal and external activities performed by the companies.
